I made the mistake of leaving at 9am in to a brutally hot day. Apart from Lourdes, which had a cloud covering it – a sure miracle – I baked all day. My main concern was always water but I never had a problem finding it. The best moment was spotting a friendly tap at the top of one of the climbs.
I wanted to camp but in this heat it would be awful so I booked in to an Ibis because I know they have air con.
I closed the blind, showered and lay on the bed for a long time watching the TdF and lowering my body temperature.
A surprisingly good Indian meal was then devoured! 6am departure tomorrow I hope.
